Personal Development

Channel PWEM achieves it’s aims through projects and all of these projects are specifically tailored to the person.  Each person who becomes part of a project has personal developmental goals.  You could look upon each project as having an educational (Vocational) and training element.  We firmly believe that people learn through seeing and doing – sometimes referred to as Experiential Learning – the person participating plays a comparatively passive role.  In our projects / programmes, we encourage the participants to develop at their own pace and to maximise and develop their abilities .

Yes, I know it sounds rosy and easy going!  We have noticed that some people like to get recognition for their effort.  They like that piece of paper awarded to them.  No problem at all.  If you look at the sub-menu under ‘Personal Development’ you can see all the certificate courses that we offer.  There are no written exams.  Quite simply, the participant is asked to demonstrate the learned skills.  To keep the process ‘stress free’, these demonstration happen as part of the normal ‘work day’.  There is no ‘big exam day’ to prepare and get stressed out over.

We also offer a series of online tutorials that are very practice oriented and paced to cater for all levels of users.  These can be found from the Personal Development drop-down menu.

In a nutshell

  • we provide the facilities and supports to aid learning
  • the participants learn through their own activities
  • each participant is part of a social team
  • as facilitators we have a combination of personal experience and formal education at third level in the processes used.
  • we offer certifications to those who like to progress through the more formal avenues.

Adults with Intellectual Disabilities

Currently, all our Education and Training is restricted to adults with intellectual disabilities and takes place within the context of projects that we run in a Community TV Studio environment.

You can find information about the structure and content of all our courses through the Personal Development tab of the main menu.  All these courses have been designed in-house specifically for adults with some for of Intellectual Disability.  If you would like to find out additional details or access to a project – please contact us using the ‘Contact Form‘ on the website.
